Pets

If you want to bring your pet to Sweden, visit your vet first to obtain a pet passport, get your animal identified (microchip or tattoo), blood tested and vaccinated for rabies, and finally, dewormed for tapeworm (1-10 days before traveling). Arriving in Sweden, stop at the customs office to declare your pet.

Bringing pets from the UK or Ireland: The rabies bloodtest and vaccination is not required, as long as the pet arrives in Sweden directly by air or ship, not via the continent.

Exceptions from customs regulations: Sweden does not require an import permit to bring dogs or cats from EU Member States. Dogs and cats entering Sweden from Finland do not have to be dewormed. Dogs and cats coming from Norway are exempt from all customs requirements. Non-vaccinated puppies and kittens can only be imported from Norway, the UK, and Ireland.

Along with your USDA accredited & stamped health certificate, pet identification, vaccinations and blood test,deworming, passport for pet animals you will also need to notify customs.

Notice: Pet dogs, cats, and ferrets must be identified with either a clearly readable tattoo or a microchip. The microchip must comply with ISO standard 11784 or 11785 Annex A, or the appropriate microchip reader must be provided along with the pet. Annex A type microchips available in the United States include AKC/TROVAN, HOMEAGAIN and AVID EUROCHIP.
