Pets

To import your pets (e.g. dogs, cats, ornamental birds, rabbits, guinea pigs etc), you must first obtain an import license from the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) within 30 days prior to the date of arrival.

Application for the license can be made with the online form Licence to Import/Export/Transship Animals, Birds, Eggs and Biologics. Please allow two working days to process the permit upon receipt of the duly completed application.

The import license is valid for 30 days from the date of issue and the fee is S$50 per license. A surcharge equal to the license fee will be imposed if the license is required to be processed within a period shorter than 2 working days.

Starting 1 January 2010, AVA will be implementing a new set of import and quarantine requirements as part of our rabies risk management approach to the importation of dogs and cats into Singapore.

Your veterinarian will need to state on the health certificate that your pet has resided continuously in the country of export for the six months prior to departure. In the U.S., the USDA will also need to be willing to endorse paperwork stating that your pet has resided continuously in the country of export.

From 1 July 2009 to 31 December 2009, dogs and cats may be imported into Singapore under the current veterinary conditions as well as the new veterinary conditions under the revised quarantine policy. The current veterinary conditions will cease effect from 1 January 2010.

In order to facilitate the processing of import licenses for mixed or cross breed dogs, AVA will require the applicant to attach a color photo of the dog showing the face and body clearly. This is to help AVA to identify the dog breed and ensure that it is not one of the breeds which is prohibited from import.

There is also a veterinary certification that your pet will have to be accompanied by as well. The US falls under Category C (excluding Guam and Hawaii.)

**There is now a 10-day mandatory quarantine upon arrival in Singapore for pets coming from the US, Canada, Netherlands, Belgium and Spain. This cannot be avoided. Reservations must be made with the Singapore Animal Quarantine Station prior to arrival.**

Please contact us for more information on the Quarantine Station and vaccination time-frame requirements for import to Singapore.
