Pets
1. Dogs and Cats are allowed without any quarantine staying period, provided being accompanied by a health certificate issued by the Quarantine Authority or a Veterinarian imported from the following countries only: Australia (see also below for further information regarding cats), Chinese Taipei, Cyprus, Fiji, Guam, Iceland, Ireland (Rep. of), Jamaica, Japan, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, United Kingdom and the U.S.A. (Hawaii and Samoa American).
2. Dogs and cats from other countries can be imported without quarantine if accompanied by a health certificate and provided the following conditions are met:
a. In case the pet is under 90 days, it should be described on the health certificate that the pet is healthy and no symptoms of diseases have been found;
b. When the pet is older than 90 days, the inoculation date should be clearly specified on the health certificate and the arrival date is at least 30 days since vaccination, otherwise a rabies vaccination certificate should be supplementary required and this certificate should prove that such pets have been vaccinated at least 30 days previously. In case of import before the 30 days elapse time, pets shall be quarantined until 30 days have passed since vaccination;
c. 21 days of quarantine period is applied to all cats imported from Australia. The same rule is applied to dogs and cats imported from Malaysia. For exemptions and more information prior contact with the Korean Quarantine Office should be made as it depends on each situation of each state and country.
The import of max. 4 dogs or cats are allowed without prior permission. If a passenger wants to bring more than 4 animals, a form for permission of import should be submitted to the Korean Quarantine Office at the airport of arrival.3. Birds imported from China (People's Rep.) or Italy are prohibited. Imports from other countries is subject to various and complicated regulations varying from country to country according to the required hygienic standard. Prior contact with the Korean Quarantine Office should be made to acquire more details.
Pets may enter as passenger's checked baggage, in the cabin or as cargo.
General Information
Korea is a civilization, formerly unified nation, and geographic area currently composed of two sovereign states located on the Korean Peninsula in East Asia. It borders China to the northwest, and Russia to the northeast, and is separated from Japan to the east by the Korea Strait.
Korea was divided in 1948, with the southern portion of the peninsula controlled by the capitalistic democracy South Korea. South Korea, officially known as the Republic of Korea, is a developed country with memberships in the United Nations, WTO, OECD and G-20 major economies and home to such global brands as Samsung, LG Electronics, and Hyundai.
The northern portion is controlled by the single-party communist North Korea, officially known as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. (DPRK)
