Pets

All animals are PROHIBITED ENTRY by air into Fiji except dogs and cats imported from New Zealand and certain Australian States, namely New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia, provided: the animals are shipped in a "nose and paw proof" container; an import permit has been obtained from the Director of Animal Health and Production in Suva prior to departure and the health requirements specified therein are complied with.

The pets must be transported by air from Nandi to Suva to be quarantined at Vatuwaqa (length depends on country of origin) Dogs and cats MAY TRANSIT by air provided: - by same or first connecting aircraft; - shipped in a nose and paw proof container; - they remain in the container during transit time; - a transit permit has been obtained from the Dept. of Agriculture in Suva.

Small Animals Brought on Yachts

All animals brought into Fiji by yacht MUST REMAIN ON BOARD THE YACHT DURING THE ENTIRE DURATION of their stay in Fiji. It is offense to permit the animals to leave the yacht at any stage while the yacht is in Fiji. Please note that there is no minimum period of quarantine for such animals as Fiji does not permit these animals to leave the yachts at all, except to fly out of Fiji to another country.

In cases where the animals are to fly out, the animals must be on yachts that are either at Vuda Marina or the Suva Yacht Club in Fiji. Fiji Quarantine officers will escort the animals from the yacht to a specified vehicle and transport them directly to Nadi Airport for transfer to the aircraft. All quarantine and associated costs are to be borne by the animal guardian.

General Information

is an island nation in the South Pacific Ocean east of Vanuatu, west of Tonga and south of Tuvalu.Fiji covers a total area of some 194 000 square kilometres of which around 10% is land.

Fiji is the hub of the South West Pacific, midway between Vanuatu and the Kingdom of Tonga. The archipelago is located between 176° 53′ east and 178° 12′ west. The 180° meridian runs through Taveuni but the International Dateline is bent convieniently to give uniform time to all of the Fiji group. With the exception of Rotuma, the Fiji group lies between 15° 42′ and 20° 02′ south. Rotuma is located 400 kilometers north of the group, 670 km from Suva, 12° 30′ south of the equator.

Fiji consists of 322 islands (of which 106 are inhabited) and 522 smaller islets. The two most important islands are Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. The islands are mountainous, with peaks up to 1,300 meters (4,250 ft), and covered with thick tropical forests.
