Dogs and cats require a veterinary health certificate issued at the point of origin and an import permit. On arrival veterinary inspection will take place. The health certificate must mention: country of origin, names and Christian name and address of guardian, species, sex of animal, that animal is free from ticks and has not been exposed to contagious diseases.

Furthermore (for dogs and cats) the health certificate must state that they have been vaccinated against rabies over one month but less than 12 months before departure if an activated or Kelev vaccine has been used, or 36 months before departure if an avianized (Flury) vaccine has been used. This certificate must be issued not more than 15 days before departure.

Burundi is a country in the Great Lakes region of Eastern Africa bordered by Rwanda to the north, Tanzania to the east and south, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. Its size is just under 28,000 km˛ with an estimated population of almost 8,700,000. Its capital is Bujumbura. Although the country is landlocked, much of the southwestern border is adjacent to Lake Tanganyika.One of the smallest countries in Africa, Burundi is landlocked and has an equatorial climate.
